Bio
Born in Buenos Aires in 1976, Fernanda has been a dancer from an early age. Her background includes ballet and jazz training at some of the best known studios in Buenos Aires, among them those of Olga Kirowa and Noemi Coelho-Rodolfo Olguin.
Having begun her tango studies in 1996, Fernanda soon became a a professional tango dancer performing at such well-known Buenos Aires tango clubs as El Viejo Almacén and La Cumparsita. Her principal teachers were Sabrina and Ruben Véliz ("Nueva Compañía Tangueros" and "Tango Emoción").
Along with her career as a performer, Fernanda served as an instructor in various Argentine studios, colleges and cultural centers before moving to Boston in 2001.
In 2002, with the musician Bernardo Monk, Fernanda created the music/dance group MassTango that soon became well known in the NE area.
In the United States Fernanda has performed at the Tango Conference at Harvard University, the Institute of Contemporary Art (Boston), the Somerville Theater, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Regattabar and Ryles Jazz Club (Cambridge), the Northampton Center for the Arts, Northeastern University, Regis College (Weston), Berkshire Community College (Pittsfield), the International Folk Festival (Boston), MIT's Kresge Auditorium, and at Joe’s Pub (New York).
She has also performed at several events organized by the Boston Tango Society.
A teacher now in high demand, Fernanda has conducted tango seminars at the Boston Tango Festival, the Tango at the Factory, the MIT Tango Club, the Harvard Tango Club, SimmonsCollege, the FenwayHigh School, the JorgeHernandezCulturalCenter, the BrooklineCommunity Center for the Arts. She has been invited by the renowned Argentine composer Osvaldo Golijov to lead tango workshops at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester.
Fernanda has studied music for many years. Her studies include piano, voice and choral conducting at the National Conservatory of Buenos Aires, the Manuel de Falla Conservatory, and the Julian Aguirre Conservatory. This background has helped Fernanda to achieve a rich synthesis of music and dance.
